Ms. Weilnau is the featured teacher for this month's publication! She is an English and Psychology teacher here at Valley Lutheran and has taught here for 12 years. She also is a director of many of Valley's drama productions. Ms. Weilnau graduated from CMU and Concordia University.
As you might guess, Ms Weilnau's favorite class in high school was either her AP English Lit class or Honors English. She had a great teacher and she loves reading. "Just something about being in classes with other people who love books," she describes, "we had great discussions." When asked about her favorite memory from high school, she explained how she was introduced to the Harry Potter series. "When I was in middle school, the Harry Potter movies were coming out, and I refused to read the books because they were super popular, and I was like 'No! I'm not going to do it!'" In a modern novel class, Ms. Weilnau had to read the series for her group work, and she ended up falling in love with those books. "That's probably my most fond memory because it has impacted my life beyond then."
Ms. Weilnau has always known that she wanted to be a teacher. She also never doubted that she always wanted to be an English teacher, so when asked what she would teach if not English or Psychology, she responded with History. Her perfect snow day is spent doing something she loves that she doesn't usually have time for. "For me, sometimes it's reading a book, or getting caught up on a really good TV show, or watching that movie that you just haven't found time to watch. But it's different for everyone." In her free time, Ms. Weilnau naturally loves to read, travel, knit, and hike.
