October Sports Summary

Varsity Football

After a depressing few years, Valley Lutheran’s Football program shows some signs of hope. Despite lots of injuries you Chargers kept a tight game against St. Louis, losing 21 to 28. A great sign of improvement if you ask me. Then, to close out the season, Carter Rauschert led the Valley Lutheran Chargers to victory 26 to 14 against the Caro Tigers. That is the first win in 4 years according to my sources.

JV Football

If you thought that the Varsity’s win isn’t enough, our first JV team in years went 2-4 defeating Carrollton and Hemlock. Great Job JV Chargers Football!

Varsity Soccer

A Soccer Season in brief statements. A Junior filled team with only 5 seniors; we lose every game in the tournament to start the season; starter Wheatley Rodammer is out for the season; we go 8-2-2 in Conference; onto Districts; we crush Lakers; great we get Bad Axe; great we beat Bad Axe; District Championship against Midland Calvary Baptist; we beat them earlier this season; we lose 2-1; next season will be senior dominated;

JV Soccer

I just want to say, I’m impressed. They beat three, if not more, Division 1 teams. Each player on the team either had a save, goal, or assist! That is important because it means it isn’t one or two players carrying the team, it is the whole team working together as a unit, a well oiled machine. A team of 11 Sophomores and 8 Freshman, Valley Lutheran’s Boys Soccer Program has a bright future ahead after a 11-4 season. The captains were Brady Smith. Nathan Hood, Parker Richie, and Trent Schivone. There were two games that stood out, the game against Heritage and the game against Mount Pleasant. The reason the Heritage Game was so important is because we beat Heritage, a school 5 times bigger than Valley, 6-2! That is a big win against a Division 1 school. The game against Mount Pleasant was also big because it was played the day that Mr. Zill died. Mr. Zill was a Varsity Girls Soccer Coach and a big part of both the boys and girls soccer programs at Valley. Coach Bauer told them before the game, win this one for Zill. And they did, shutting out Mount Pleasant 3-0 and that is after the boys had played 6 games in 2 weeks. They were tired and still whopped them. Great Season Boys!

Varsity Volleyball

Our Varsity Volleyball, wow! 2nd in TVC 10 to Ithaca even with lots of injuries! They won their first tournament amidst tough competition! Besides playing tough competition, the girls got to bond a lot. They continued to progress and get better throughout the season. Then they beat Reese 3-2 at Districts and are off to take on Millington at Districts. Great work girls! Go get ‘um!

JV Volleyball

Your Charger Volleyball program won’t be slacking the next 2 years. Your Chargers went 9-1, just like the Varsity! All the girls got lots Breyer throughout the season and continue to improve The tournaments they were in, they were mostly placed in the Gold bracket, but when they were placed in the silver bracket at a tournament, they won it! Good work girls! Can’t wait to see what you will do in the future!

Freshman Volleyball

Our Lady Chargers went 0.500 on the season. No losing record for them. The girls improved a lot from August to October. They’re were 12 ladies on the team lead by Captain Zoey Ross. One highlight of the season was that in multiple games, Valley Lutheran made some comebacks.

Boy's Cross Country

To start the month on the 1st, Freshman, Jayden Fox, ran a 18:18, a minute and 2 second PR, at the Shepherd Bluejay Invite in the Gold Varsity Race and medaled. Then at the TVC 10 Jamboree 3 at Hidden Oaks Golf Course hosted by St. Louis Bryan Schwarz had a massive 1 minute 44 second PR. Once again Bryan PRed at the Freeland Invite. Then finally at Regionals at Shepherd, your Seniors showed up. Gavin Girard PRed. Ethan Schmidt PRed. Bryan Schwarz PRed. Travis Scharich PRed. That is every healthy Senior, running their best race in their last race, as a Charger. But lastly, the sad bit of the Regional meet. Freshman Jayden Fox has a quote he is going to share with everyone that will haunt him the rest of his life. “1 place, 10 yards, 2 Seconds from States. Yes, Jayden Fox ran an 18:25 and was in position to make states be, he was passed in the last 10 yards of the race. However, he says that he has 4 more track seasons and 3 more XC season to prove himself and this lose will only make him stronger and want to make it to states in both track and XC more.

Girl's Cross Country

Let's just say it was the Claire Neumann show. No matter the size of the race she never was outside the top 20. Never ran slower than 22:06 and that time was on a really crappy day and course. If there was an award, that award was her’s. And at the race that mattered the most, Regionals, she delivered, placing in the top 15 and on her way to the State XC Meet on Nov 5. She is First Team All Conference, First Team TVC 10, and First Team All County. But there’s more Maryn Hyatt and Emma Haynes really performed this season. Maryn started the season in the 28’s but by Regionals cut it down to 23:06. Also Emma claimed a Second Team TVC 10 this season. Also, the most time cut off this season is 9 minutes by Kelly Laux. Your Lady Chargers took 5th at Regionals.

Girl's Golf

Girls Golf has a shorter season than most fall sports but Regionals was still in October. Regionals was at the Mount Pleasant Country Club where Rachel Webb lead the team with a score of 124 with a par of 72. They, as a team, placed 10th place at Regionals. Girls Golf is full of new athletes to the sport and there are no cuts. Many have never stepped foot on a tee box before let alone hold a driver. These girls have a bright future ahead of them with 7 sophomores on the team. Great season girls!
